Try it: 1–8, ← → or hover. ↩ opens, ⌘C copies.
The picker
A row of icons or a vertical list, names on or off, icons from 32 to 96 points. It opens under your cursor or in the middle of the screen, and browsers that aren't running are dimmed.
CompactIcons only. Small enough to forget it's there.
Vertical listEasiest to scan when names matter.
Expanded, with every profileGot a lot of browsers? Past eight, the row wraps into a tidy grid.
Profiles
Chrome, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi and other Chromium browsers, plus Firefox, are scanned for profiles. Each one gets its own slot, number key, name, icon and place in the order. Hide the ones you never use.
Rules
Rules run top to bottom and the first match wins. Match on the domain, a wildcard or regex, the app the link came from, which modifier keys you're holding, local files, or your current Focus.
https://*.atlassian.net/*youtube.comCaps Lock
Turn on Caps Lock and Via skips every rule and shows the picker instead. Open that Slack link in Safari this one time, without touching your setup.
Click the key, then click the link.
Keyboard first
Number keys follow the order you set. No hunting.
Use the arrows or Tab, then Return or Space to open.
Close the picker and nothing opens.
Hold Option while picking to copy the URL instead of opening it.
Hold Control and the browser stays behind your current window.
Copy the URL right from the picker. It's also a slot of its own, with a number, and rules can send links to it.
Clean links
Via removes tracking parameters and unwraps redirect links from Google, Facebook, Outlook Safe Links and others, all on your Mac with no network requests. Rules see the real address. You can also add your own rewrites: replace domains, use regex, or change the protocol.
Plain JSON
Everything lives in ~/.config/via/config.json. Edit it in Settings or in your editor, and both stay in sync. Changes apply as soon as you save. Commit it to your dotfiles.
